I have just watched the second part of Charlotes Dressage demo with her gorgous young horse and as I always do I also read the extended notes from Monty. When I mounted for the first time "Mala" a friend's polish Trakehner Mare I have been working with since some month, I wore my helmet, western chaps, sat in her Dressage saddle and she wore the simplest headgear with Monty's bit where I put my long western reins on. What a funny picture we made - BUT that was exactly the result what Monty have been talking about in this lesson's extended notes. In that moment for me it was just important to find out how we would get along together when I ride her after having done Join-Up, Dually work, plastic tarp, umbrella... I didn't care about HER or the RIGHT equipment. All I needed was saddle, headgear, bit, reins, helmet and the above named pieces mixed from two diciplines were all I had. Her owner loved her a lot with the simple head gear and couldn't believe that she not even tried one time to pull up her head although she had all the freedom to do so. Mala used to were a mouth shut on her headgear and a Martingall. She respondet so willingly to little first cues from me which of course must have been new to her because I am Western rider. The comments of Charlote are very useful for me for the cases when I must mount horses who come from the dressage world. I cannot wait to watch the comming lesson! Thank you for the online univerity it is worth any lack of sleep !!! Vio Berlin
