My Join-Up® Experience

Follow up after longing!

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed

Hi, I wanted to share the following with you because I feel so happy when my young mare does that that I felt like sharing this moment with you.
Fanny is 3. I have got her for just over a month. The first things that I have done with her are join ups several times, in the round pen, but also in her box, before I introduced her new bit, or the blanket...
Now, this morning after I longed her, in the round pen, I took away the longes and just let her go freely. Well she decided to go after me! Her nose just at my shoulder level. Seeing that i started to walk around the pen, changing directions. She was still with me. When she sometimes stopped walking to grab a leef she immediately rejoined me afterwards. I felt like I could walk in an open space, she would just walk with me. This was a magic moment but not the only one. She always does that after longing.
I would really love to show that to the people where i ride so that they could too share something special with their horse but nobody has never shown interest in what I was doing...

This is a typical reaction during "quality time". The horse can follow you if she likes to. You may also stop and watch something interesting with her.

Yes, that is right. I like to stop walking without notice because then she stops too at my shoulder level.
I have a question: what exactly means the leeking and shewing, because she does that while longing, or in the box when I am there?

Hi Bea,
When a horse licks and chews they are very relaxed. They are also ready to learn.
You must be doing something very right for her to trust you so much.
Good job,
Ronda
