Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed 350 lessons completed 400 lessons completed

Hi everyone,
I have made a Facebook group for anyone here who wants to share photos or videos of themselves working with their horse/s using Monty's methods.
The group is called "Equus" and you can find it here:
horse.language@groups.facebook.com
It is in NO WAY meant to take the place of what we already have here on the forum. The group's purpose is to expand what we have here and make it easier to share photos and videos and to get to know each in a more interactive way.
I understand that not everyone uses Facebook or wants to, but I thought it was the next best thing to being able to do it here. YouTube is very public, thus I have kept the Facebook group a closed one, so only the group's members can see what is posted, ie:comments, video, photos etc.
When this forum has the capacity to do the same, I hope there will not longer be a need for the Facebook group.
You are all welcome to join and participate as much or as little as you wish.
Look forward to seeing you on Facebook!
Warmly,
Rahni xx

Facebook is not making the group easy to find, which is very annoying!
Here are the steps I had to take to find it, as the above is an email address (sorry!).....
Type "Equus" into the search box, click the search icon
Then narrow your search to "groups" using the search filter.
It will come up in the list, you just have to scroll and find it.
There is a description of the group when you click on it, that will tell you if you are in the right place.
The link to the group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/horse.language/
but I had trouble getting it to work too.
Sorry about all this! If someone understands FB better than I do, I love to know how the group can be found more easily!

Hi Rahni,
Great idea!
I have just tried looking for it, and quite a lot of 'Equus' groups come up. How do I know which one it is?
Thanks

I know! I had no idea "equus" was so popular lol
At present it only has 4 members and when you click on it the description reads:
"A group for all the Monty Robert's fans who want to share photos, videos etc about their horses and training using Monty's methods :)"
Hope that helps!

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed 350 lessons completed 400 lessons completed

Also, make sure you search "groups" in your search filters. It has a horse shoe icon and there seems to only be a few with that icon. It is marked as a "closed" group and the text is capital letter "E" and then all lower case, so it reads as "Equus"
Finding it has to be easier than this!

(apologies for me working this all out on here! I hope I haven't confused anyone)

Thanks Rahni for this opportunity. I have put a video of Carambo, a 4 year old gelding. Orientation: I often walk two rounds instead of only turning the horse in the middle, especially when there is a lot of activity around. "Join-Up": It is not the initial Join-Up, it means to move the horse in liberty with the body language, in this sense the Joinup can be repeated fore ever. Because nobody had time to ride him, I did about 50 lessons like this one in different variations. Initially he could not be touched at all, in the meantime he is an excellent horse and is ridden every day.

1) The most important idea will be that I do not want to give a public access to my private videos.
2) I think the videos must be cut, with a duration not longer than a certain time (maybe less than 5 minutes)
Then we will see how many videos really arrive...

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed 350 lessons completed 400 lessons completed

Ditto what Rudi said :)
Plus it would be great for everyone to have the opportunity to build a personal profile page (if they wanted to) like other forum formats do eg: V Bulletin
The forum would be more efficient if we could edit our own postings as this would save a lot of space, for example all the info in my above posts could have been edited into the one post if I was able to edit my original post.
And one more thing, the forum needs more moderation of threads and posts. Some of the threads have gotten way out of hand on here.
I feel the uni forum would attract more members and keep members coming back if the format of this forum ran better, was more user friendly and had better moderation.
I love the Uni and the ideas and experiences we share here is like gold!

I am sure that the wonderful team of people who have put this uni together are already aware of these things and I apologies for being off topic a little, but I thought I'd mention them as I feel it would be more attractive to more people if the forum was tweaked a little :)

I'm not on Facebook, so I can't join you there, but I think it is good that others have the opportunity. :)
.
To answer Local's query, my first wish would be for the board to be more Firefox-browser-friendly. (To be able to watch the lessons properly, if nothing else!)
A possibility to edit your own posts would be great. Esp. if we are posting pics and vids - my experience from other boards (vBulletin!)things tend to get wrong a lot...
Being able to see who has posted new vids/pics, as well as updates, would also be great.
A very simple way of uploading from my computer. Again, vBulletin have some nice features in this dept. and I would guess a lot of people are already used to that interface..
.
Having been an Admin for several years at a board/Forum, I know from first hand experience that most forums need moderation, but also that it takes quite an amount of time and effort.
First off, there need to be written guidelines, so members knows what goes and what goes in the bin. Then someone has to actively read *all* posts being made. Plus making sometimes difficult decisions about editing _ or not editing - things out, and then having to solve any issues arising from whatever decision you make.
Just saying it takes some time and effort. :)
.
Must add that IMHO - and compared to many message boards and forums out there - I think we are doing very well in here.
I also tip my hat to Local and any one else managing this place! Great job, guys!!!

Yeah, I'm not liking that about Facebook, I feel like some are being left out and that isn't cool at all. It is much nicer if everyone can be together and interacting in the one place.

Last week I tried it in another "lazy" horse and it worked well, it is much easier to handle than plastic bags.

Rudi,
I don't have Facebook, so can't watch it, but I'm sure it is a working idea. :)
I don't think I will try it with my boy, though, since I am still trying to teach him that getting legs washed with a hose isn't lethal to horses.

Hi Rudi - not sure if I like the idea of using a water pistol to stimulate them - haven't seen your video so apologise for that. Just a little concerned that this may make them a bit fearful of water and then hard to hose down.

Dear friends,
I have added another video in Facebook showing the development of Wieger, a 6 year old Friesian stallion. There are two ideas: 1) Initially I used more "nic's" than "pic's", now more "positive instant consequences", 2) main reward after a series of tasks.

Thank you very much for the video. I think there are too few videos and they should be discussed in detail if we want to take profit. My comments (without offending you:
Two things do not correspond to Monty's school: First you are not using the Dually, second you are wearing sun glasses.
There is a little moment of hesitating because you are looking back.

Although you need to be a member of Facebook to join a group, if videos are posted on a personal page for public viewing anyone can view it.

here is one of Pye today, big bucker when we first rescued him. he's not been worked all winter. For newbies, this is an excellent example of the horse learning himself with the pressure of the dually. Notice I keep the line slack at first so he does the first tug.

Dear Mel. Thank you for the video. I find that our comments are very important. The bucking is not very severe. The saddle blanket seems to be displaced and may contribute to the bucking. That's why I prefer to put the saddle alone for the first couple of times.
