I would love to see a video of how to retrain a racehorse as mine gets very confused when I long lined him, panicked and galloped off and that is how he reacts when I try to teach him something new as he is smart and wants to please but gets claustrophobic when confused or when I confuse him would be more accurate. so just a video on what might be done differently and what sections to work more on ect.
Thanks, paige.

agreed! also have an exracehorse who panics if he doesn't know what is happening.
Hello and welcome, with most ex-racehorses, most of their training has been about one thing RUNNING that is keyed by BOLTING out of the staring gate, while being stuffed with high energy grains to keep their systems operating on nutrient overload. `Not a good scenario for a pleasurable trail ride. Most of these horses have to be restarted with basics as you would a young horse that has never been backed. As new owners, insist on a slow, methodical system of training because you have to change how the horse thinks when it comes to being ridden. For your pleasure, you must be able to bring about a softness to the manner by which your horse is handled along with a consistency that the horse can count on. These horses can be a handful for an experienced trainer and overwhelming for the new trainers.
.
.You mentioned long lining. I would suspect that the horse has probably never been long lined before. Race horses are just trained differently. People buy or acquire racehorses usually because they have been ridden before with the misconception that they can be ridden with not very much training. This has always been a problem as there are many horses being retired from the track every day.
.
.My suggestion would be to find a trainer with the experience to restart the process and take the time necessary to build a connection with the horse.
.
.I hope this helps, Bud
