I was at a horse show the other day. While getting my horse ready another horse showed up. When they were unloading him he dated out of the trailer on a long line. Then once out two guys grabed his halter and put two stud chains on him. He was rearing and striking out. The owner said he was just excited about the show. I asked was he like that at home and she said yes. During tack up and mount he would not stand still. He would keep rearing. During the show he became out of control and was disqualified. They had him entered into 2 other classes later that day. I went up to the owner and asked her if I could help her out for free. We had a few hours before the next class. She said fine. I toke the horse to a pen out back and used it for join up. Once that was done and went well I toke their halter off him and replaced it with a dually. I just started leading him. He ran into it two times. didnt like that then started rearing. I bumped the line to bring him down. After that when he started to rear I would bump the line. after that worked on standing still. Long story short. after an hour and time fr the next class. I asked the rider to mount him him *stood still* and I lead them to the ring in the dully. the rider said she has used a bitless bride befire she i let her go with my dually. the horse came in 2ed in the class and first in his last class. after the show he owner came to me with a tear in her eyes. She said he has never placed in his shows and has always been misbehaving. She asked how much did she owe me for the work I told her just a hug and to never put stud chains back on him ever again. She gave me a hug. When I was getting ready to leave. she came up to me and handed me her stud chains and said here i will never use them agian...
.
We hugs again and I gave her my number if she ever needed me again.

Hi thunderfoothorsetraining,
What a great story about the Dually and your being so brave to step in and offer your help.
Often people feel it as an intrusion, but you managed to have her giving it a try, with a wonderful result! Congratulations!!!
Miriam
Thanks. Everything they were doing was just wrong (to me). If the horse gets treated like that at shows what about during training and schooling at home. Anyway that I can speak out for the horses and show that there is a better way I do that. I don't do this for the money as I told the owner. I do it to change minds and make this world a better one.
Excellent work and good call!
Brilliant, I'm so pleased your help was accepted & learned, it can be very disheartening when you are brave enough to offer your help & it gets rejected. Well done you!!!
Wow, what a wonderful achievement, congratulations!
A fantastic story thunderfoothorsetraining. I am so pleased the owner was receptive to you having a go. Well done and congratulations. The dually is a magical halter yet so few in my area use it - I have only seen one other in use.
So proud of you thunderfoothorsetraining! Was really good to hear you accomplished Join-Up too. Yes, owners will often reject the help but with soft determination you inspire us to change the world one owner at a time :)
For me an the area I live in. The best place to help show a new way of training is at shows both local and maybe the higher levels. If I can change just one owners mind each month that is a great start.
Hi i did join up with a small bay her name was bella.
she needed to lern to lead we had fun and i felt good after both join up and leading.
Her owners where pleaseed with me and still rememder me.
That's great Linda, sounds as if you had a good time :-)

Wonderful work Jerrytorgerson! Keep up the good work. I specially like your story were you put time to school the horse before loading - the Dually and hand that hold the line is certainly a Key to success - yet Your work beforehand is the Key to all horsemanship! Well Done! Warmest CI Ann Lindberg
