Wow.....I joined the uni and am enjoying every lesson. Today in watching the lesson on how bad single lunge line is for the horse, I now realize that once I was riding a horse that evidently had this problem, and I felt like he wanted to "run into the rail" with me, as his head was always off balance turned in towards the wall.
I had no idea where that come from, or why he was doing this, I just no I felt very unsafe, and now I understand why he was keeping his head in a position that didnt make any sense and was very unnatural.......thanks.......diana

I did the same thing with my horse too. Everyone around here does it like that, now I'm learning to do it the right way. Maybe if you double long line your horse he will learn to run around more naturally. I have the lines just waiting for my horses foot to feel better before I try it....I wish I had a round pen.
Hi girls, can I suggest you have a look on you tube under "Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling" - he has some really interesting videos on lunging and how you still can single line lunge effectively and with the horse working with correct flexion. His work is very effective. Cheers Jan
Ditto Jan;
I use single line and basically use the same method as Klaus. Just keep the line slack and don't make them go to the end of the line. Its so very easy to train them to adjust to a nice slack line and therefore maintain good normal flexion.
Hi Jan, was in Ontario reviewing more Dutch Warmbloods. Came back with a beautiful 3 year old that has had nothing done but with him but leading only....really looking forward to training him.
Hey Paul - the Dutch Warmblood sounds like an exciting prospect indeed - interested to hear how he goes. Have been in touch with john and things look like moving along for him with Beamer which is great. ALso something you may be interested in checking out on the internet - I am attending a clinic with Carlos Tabanaberri in a couple of weeks down her in Tasmania - his website is Whispering Acres - have a look at it - he is a very interesting young trainer with a wonderful ethos to his work. Once again all the best with the 3 year old. Cheers Jan
Sounds lovely Paul, I bet you can't wait to get started! I would also add, if you are going to single line, as well as the advice given, make sure you change direction quite often rather than just going round and round endlessly and work both sides evenly. They inevitably go one way better than the other (just like us!) and our temptation is often to owrk the easy side more which makes the issue worse!
