How do I get horses ears clipped without sedation. I refuse to twitch- ear or nose. I work on rubbing the ears, putting the clippers by the ears and as the horse relaxes down, reward with praise and rubs. I turn the clippers on and let them feel the vibration and hear the noise. I make sure the clippers are not hot and I have even had some horses looked at by vets just to double check no ticks or any issues with the ears. No one ever shows ear clipping and I have witnessed some nasty scenes with trainers getting brutal to horses over this. I know I am not the only person with this issue who attends shows etc. THANK YOU!

Hi hpigfor, I have seen Monty working with a little Welsh mare who absolutely didn't accept the clipper. He started his desensertizing with a (cold) hair dryer. It was warm and the horse enjoyed the fresh air. He touched and rubbed her ears and worked his way up like this. At the beginning there was one of most interesting join-ups I have ever seen of him. The Welsh mare had a hard time trusting him and it was windy and things have been flapping around on the round pen so she was very distracted too. But in the end Monty had her trusting her and clipped her ears. I have a video tape of it I could offer to provide - some way ? VioBerlin
Monty needs to do some video lessons on clipping. Especially ears!
