There are so many different births on the market. For a young horse it is best to have one of the softer broader ones but you may have this already. I tend to always loosen the offside of the girth before I cinch up so that you then cinch up on both sides which makes the pressure on your horses belly more even and ensures your gith is even on both sides too. If your horse is still unhappy then it maybe more likely that it is the saddle fit that is uncomfortable to her or that her back muscles are sore. If the saddle is pinching them or they have a sore back they usually try to tell you by objecting when you cinch up the girth. If she was OK previously then I would suggest that her problem is more likely to be a sore back rather than from the girthing. I would get her saddle fitted and her back checked by a physio or chiro and rest her. More information here would help - how often do you work her and for how long do you ride her. How young is she and how long have you been riding her etc. A young horse needs to have their back muscles built up gradually over time with frequent short riding sessions rather than the occasional long ride.
Oops girths not births - my IPad self corrected this!
