Catching in the pasture

Hello!
Hello everyone,
I just want to share my experience of catching a horse in the pasture.
I take riding lessons every week with a pony, it has been a few months now. Every time a walk towards her in the pasture to catch her, she looks at me and then walks away. She don't run from me, she is not afraid, but she just shows me that she does't want to come to me at all. As I reach her, she keeps walking and I have to walk along to put her the halter on. She eventually stops but then refuses to move as I try to lead her out of the pasture. Not a single time has she come to me (unlike the other horses she shares the pasture with), and never has she followed me willingly.
As I discovered the Monty Roberts Equus Online University, I watched with a lot of enthusiasm the lessons about catching a horse in the pasture, hoping that it would solve my problem. I watched it carefully, took notes and tried it by myself in the pasture the next day.
I didn't expect it to go so well, for the first time in months she came to me willingly, walking a few meters in my direction, to say hi and ask for a rub. It was such a good surprise, I almost cried of joy. I think this will remain the best memory of my horseman life.
Thank you for reading,
Laura.

Hi Laura and welcome to the forum!
What a wonderful experience you had with your pony, and most of all with your own learning!!! Let me tell you that this great memory can be the first of many, many new ones as you keep learning the language of Equus... Learning never ends, Monty says he still learns at the age of now almost 82!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story and please keep in contact with the forum!

Hi Laura. Very often horses in riding schools give up on trying to communicate with us because no one has ever listened to them. You'll have lots of fun with the Uni lessons & I'll bet you'll have many more breakthroughs. Good luck. Cheers Jo.
