Would love to see a course on ground work lessons for young horses, with instruction on the basics of things that you can do with young horses to gain respect and confidence.

Hi Ginamarie,
I think there is going to be that lesson addressed very soon.
When we go to the lesson tab at the top and go to the bottom of that I think that very subject will be coming soon. Hurray!!!
Ronda
Yes, I would like to see this as well.
would love to see this lesson also, i have recently accquired my first yearling and would like to start on the right note with this fella.
This is a great idea!! I need as much help with my little guy as I can get!!
i would be real interested on how to start off a yearling.. i have massive problems in getting a halter on one of my friends little girls...
It would be great! I would like to have as much information as possible to start my little guy.
It would be great! I would like to have as much information as possible to start my little guy.
I also would love to see this. I need lots of good ideas to help me along with my wild one.
I can't wait to see this also, I am also getting a weanling and find monty's lessons very helpful and informative!
Given it is raining and suddenly cold in Melbourne - temperature just dropped 15 degrees - I have been spoiling myself watching some of the horse videos on Town and Country TV - UK instead of cleaning my pantry. Wow!! Has anyone else watched the "At Home with Carl Hester" series? Here is really a man I can relate to as I share not only his love of horses but his love and connection with all animals. I was delighted to note that he too is very happy to feed his magnificent horses treats to encourage their close relationship with him and as a reward for work well done. He gives sugar lumps but bits of carrot are my preference as they are less harmful to the horses teeth. None of his horses appear to be pushy or dangerous because he feeds them treats. So it is all about how you do it and how well you train them. He even feeds his favourite horse apple pies and sandwiches - I don't think I would do that - I am too fearful of cholic!! Episode 2 shows his young 4 year old horse which he is just started training but it is already looking great in dressage. Apparently a week earlier it could not even canter properly so that confirms how careful we should be not to try to canter our babies too soon aonce we start riding them. Also his lesson time for this young one is interesting - 10 minutes only. Well worth watching and quite awe inspiring! Wish I was younger!!
Yes! I can't wait to see this new lesson as I am getting my weanling in a month!
waiting...!
Hi everyone training youngsters and waiting for this new release. This morning I was trying to log on to the Uni. on my daughter's new computer and instead log on to the Monty Roberts videos on Youtube. Have you watched these? I found "Monty Robert's and Hette" really great and also "Gentling your spooky horse" and "Monty Roberts and Milo". There were a number of others which I intend to watch as soon as I can find the time. The address I was on was 'Youtube.com/watch?v=AOPlrQrOCSMfeature=related". From memory there were 41 videos on the site
Hi Maggie, I have watched a few of these videos and they are great hey! But i couln't find Hette part 2 which i think would have been a great one! I also read your comment above about carl hester and how he gives treats to his horses and i agree with you that if done right and it works for you then great! The young lady who owns Buster's dad uses clicker training to train her horses with great success. She doesn't seem to have a problem with her horses being pushy or biting so i suppose each person needs to make up their own mind if they are going to give treats as a reward :-)
Janelle
Thanks - Janelle. Hope Buster is going well and taking some steps for you now. I couldn't find Hette Part 2 either so perhaps it doesn't exist yet.
Hi Maggie, Buster is back on the chia seed now and his back leg is now fine...weird hey! I haven't tried to ride again yet though. I am still trying to get him moving around me on a single line - i know Monty doesn't like it but it works for me - we have had a few steps in the direction i am asking so that is something. Each lesson he gets a little better and i think once he understands 'forward' he will be ok. I thought i would try and teach my mini to do the same to see if it was just me being unreadable but Blaze (mini) had it in about 20 seconds. He is very forward moving so i am presuming Buster's issues are coming from being a very Whoa horse! We will get there!

I am looking forward to the starting of the yearlings and weanlings. I just separated my 6 month old from his Mom and we are still pacing and looking out to the pasture and whinning. I have him in with my daughter's shetland pony for now. I also just ordered my first dually halter, small for my young one and the shetland and I have another one that will be ready to wean in August. I am not sure but I might have a couple more coming yet. I am so looking forward to some pointers on starting the young horse.
Wow! Hollyberry - you have some fun ahead of you. So pleased that you have ordered a dually as they are just great especially with youngsters. Shetlands are pretty useful aren't they. I am really enjoying mine and find all sorts of jobs for him to do. Of course I love him to bits and he is worth having just for cuddle value alone!
Hollyberry and all those with yearlings and weaners have you checked out YouTube search Monty Roberts yet. Great way to watch more of Monty's videos free as we waite for those to come on the Uni site. If interested refer to my comment under the Forum site on Spain. I think Ronda has already directed us to these but I failed to check them out at the time as I was too busy. I am just loving these videos but I am trying to restric my watching as otherwise I will never get anything done!
I went to my local library and checked out 8 of Monty's video's. The best one is called "You and your wild horse". He starts a young wild mustang. It shows everything you need to know about starting a young horse. Because I've seen these videos several times I forget that the Uni really doesn't show how to start a baby. These videos are lengthy and packed full of information, for those of you with baby's ready to start I highly recommend them. If your local library doesn't have them they will usually be happy to order them in for you. Some of the name's of his videos are "You and your spooky horse", "Load Up", "Rosie the horse that wouldn't except a rider", "Shy Boy", and the one I mentioned above, "You and your wild horse". These video's have really filled in the blanks where the Uni leaves off.
Kleinne
Hi all - I think most of the videos Kleinne mentioned above are also on the YouTube - Monty Roberts site so that may save some time and money.
