Bareback riding and bareback pads

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed 350 lessons completed

I would love to see a thorough lesson/lessons on bareback riding. Topics could include; mounting-dismounting, proper position on horse and positioning for rider, riding in water so horse is swimming, riding into lakes and ocean. Also the scientific viewpoint (ie. pressure points, back health for the horse) and horse psychology (ie. is it enjoyable for the horse? how does he perceive bareback riding?)I feel this is an area that has been somewhat untouched but is a huge part for many people in regards to our equine companions. I know for myself that bareback riding was my first and still my favorite way to ride.

I am a huge advocate for bareback riding and train bareback regularly. I find it not only boosts the confidence of the riders that I teach (as they learn they can actually stay on the horse), but I also find it also does wonders for the majority of my horses that do deal with saddle fitting issues (which should also be a lesson in and of itself). I find that a lot of problems tend to go away when I take the saddle away if I'm test riding a horse that someone is having issues with, plus a get a better connection of feeling the horse without leather in the way.

My dream is to one day host bareback shows and events as I am currently fighting with the local horse show series to allow me to compete bareback (as there are no rules saying that I cannot in Jumpers but each steward is different). However, I do want to participate on a research study in experimenting with and determining the true proper bareback seat that is best for the horse and rider. I've seen a lot of different theories on this but that is my next research avenue to promote efficient riding for the rider and the horse's healthy back.
