Hi, since we're all horse lovers and I'm a huge collector of Breyer horse models, do we have anyone here that also enjoys this hobby as I do?

Horse addict,
I have heard of Breyer, as the collectors refer to them.
Do you have any of the "PAS", proud Arabian stallion such as the rare model: The Dapple Grey with the black mane, tail, hooves, socks or stockings?
And do you have any of the "FAS"?
For myself I love the porcelin ones but mostly I love sculptures made of bronz.
How many do do have and where have you purchased them?
Do you have any from the 50's when they first started?
Let me know OK.
I have statues that have been given to me as gifts made of porcelin, bronz and one of the traditional plastic with full gear.
If I had my way my whole house would be full of just horses and their gear, especially antiques. My den is getting there.
I did a charcoal painting of STAR two years ago and it is in my den.
It's not everyones cup of tea but for some of us it's a comfort to surround ourselves with what we love.
Ronda
Hi again,
Have you heard of Mark Peterson and his horse, Dusty.
They have this model available.
I'm going to purchase this one.
The story behind this sweet horse is amazing. Go to Breyer website and you can read about it or order other items.

I am almost 50 years old and I still have my collection of Breyer horses from when I was a girl. I've given away a lot of stuff over the years but not those. I recently told my husband I need to display them rather than keep them in a box. My Man O War model is my favorite but then again he's my favorite racehorse too. Have fun with your Breyers!!!
I either have bought my breyers online or in different stores. Not sure how many I have, but do I do have quite a few. My first breyer horses were the Spirit Stallion of the Cimirron family.
Ronda, I don't think I have any from the 50's. What's FAS?
My computer is acting up again, time for a new one.
Hi horse addict,
FAS is family arabian stallion. They have a whole slu of them. Mostly they were grey all over including the hoofs.
That is why the PAS is so valuable with the unusal colours.
They are modeled after famous horses.
Very interesting background of how they started and became so famous.
Here in Moncton we have a couple of horse stores that sell them. It is cheaper to buy them directly from the company and they have a beter selection.
I never had any from childhood but my oldest daughter does, she has the larger one given to her from her grandmother.
You guys have a great day,
Ronda
Wow that's cool Ronda! :) I have a Black Stallion model that came with a book, and I also have the mustang called Cloud.
You have Cloud,
That horse is beautiful, very cool, congrats.
I really want Dusty, I'm going to try to see if he is still available.
Ronda
Hi Ronda! I got Cloud's legacy too. I think Dusty might still be available, I searched for the Shy Boy model and he's still around.
That's great horseaddict, I'll look into that as well.
Thanks,
Ronda
Oh, I dreamed of the Breyer models when I was a kid.
I had well over a 100 (plastic) model horses of many different makes, but no Breyer, since the small ones weren't available in Sweden at the time - at least not were I lived - and the large ones cost a fortune. But once in a while you would get your hands on a brochure, showing them off, so I know very well of them. It's annoying that now when I can find and afford them very easily through Internet, I am a lot less inclined to do so. Sometimes being a grown-up is very boring! *LOL*
.
I finally bought my first Breyer when we visited the US back in 1976. A dappled gray Tennessee Walker. It still stands in a bookshelf here.
The rest of my horses are in boxes in the basement, but I would love to look at them one day.
Ah, nice memories! Thanks for reminding me, Horse addict!
Hi Horseaddict,
I love collecting. My husband has almost everything he can find or is given as gifts to do with Harley-Davidson.
We have such a large house, 13 large rooms and there seems to be themes in each one.
I don't have to worry about the dusting, I have a housekeeper and she's very careful.
If I had to do this myself I would probably only have a few displayed. Lots of curio cabinets, they come in handy!!!
lol, Ronda
Hi Kicki, glad to see some more fellow horse model collectors! Some models that I have gotten I was able to get them at a good price through specials. Such as one that I bought called Celtic Salinero with Anky's signature underneath him.
Hi Ronda, sounds like you have a very colorful home. I almost got the Shy Boy model until I set my eyes on a beautiful leopard colored stallion model that would go great with my little dressage arena that I have. I got him at a good price on Amazon.
Ronda, I got a picture of the model here on my avatar.
Hi horseaddict,
Yes my home is very colourful, inside and out. We are colourful people and the Madaline Islands appeal to us both very much.
All the homes there are very colourful.
I'm going to get Shy Boy as soon as I can. Perhaps I'll use him as my logo picture here on the forum!!!
Only suitable, seeing as Monty has taught me so much.
Ronda lol
Hi Ronda! That's great you're getting the Shy Boy model! Is he still available?
I'm trying to look into it.
Ronda
Hey, ya'll! It's so cool to see other Breyer horse collectors out there! I myself have a collection of over 100 models! I love them all but my favorite would have to be my golden Akhal-Teke! And I've been trying to collect all the female race horses (Rags to Riches, Zenyatta, etc.) but so far, I only own Ruffian! Nice to meet you all! Catch you on the flip side!
Hi Holly! Glad to see another Breyer horse collector!
My daughter has a few she collected in the 80's. She has the Morgan family and a dapple gray family that has the black mane and tail and black knees and hocks the hooves are black but the fetlocks are white. Also she has a paint showed in stride
Wow that's cool! :)
I just got a beautiful holiday 2011 horse for Christmas! She's gorgeous!
Hey, Horse addict, thanks a bunch. Your post made me google them, and I had no idea there were so many. I got my first one when I was 4, back in 1959 or thereabouts, a pinto mare with saddle, still have her. My oldest sister bought me many more over the years, but my mom sent a lot of them back before I ever saw them, and gave away several others,(she thought I should play with dolls instead) but I still have some. Just no place to put them at the moment. My little brother managed to break the tails off some of them, but Patches, my first, is intact, complete with saddle. I named her after my big brothers friends horse that he gave me a ride on. I had a crush on him for years afterwards, although that was the only time I ever saw him, but I was only 3 and horsecrazy. My sister used to say if the handsomest movie star in the world came up to me with a horse, I wouldnt see anything but the horse. Does anyone have a small gray grazing mare with black mane and tail? Thats one my mom got rid of, and she was so pretty.
Hi phantommustang1, I didn't know breyer horses went back as far as 1959. I'm not sure if breyer still has that model you are talking about. Some models are made for a while and then retired. Try to check around on ebay or amazon.
Actually, they started making horses in 1950, I just googled the history. I knew from searching yesterday that they had them in the 50s, but didnt know when they started.
cool, I hope you find your breyer model you lost.
I have some that I got from my mom from the 60's. I think my first one ad a kid was a clydesdale mare and her foal. My favorite was the orginal Black Stallion model from the early 80's. I haven gotten a new one almost every year for Christmas. They decorate my home office.
That's cool country girl, I also have a Black Stallion model, and I have 2 breyer christmas models, one from 2006 and another for 2011.
