Alexanders looks like a bit weed, but it's an old vegetable that the Romans brought to the UK many years ago. As it's wilts very quickly it's not used in the supermarkets, but you can still find it growing on sandy soils around the UK. I've added details onto my blog. Hope it helps!

Thanks for posting this, the village where i live lays on an ancient river bed and we do have a lot of this plant growing around, my filly always goes for it but I never knew why !
Thanks Mel, very useful. Cute foal too :-)

Btw, how did you get your pallets to stand up securely for your round pen and how did you secure them to each other?
Just be careful like any foods not to over eat it Lucie, 3 large stems a day should be ok else their droppings get runny.

Ah! Vicci I'm working on a blog for that :D It's all built to be dismantled quite quickly. The main supports are composers set at stages around the pen, half fill these with manure and they'll withstand winds of 60mph, when it's dismantled the compost is spread. It's all dismantled now, but as I build the next one I'll video and blog it all fully for you. Easy to do and completely inexpensive! In the inside of the pallets you put blocks of wood which stop it moving, then along the top of the pallets you lay a flat piece of wood and nail together. I'm working on wood Pins for that though as I don't want any nails in the next one. It was Monty's round pen and the wood they've used there that got me started on using pallets ;)
