Horse Care and Comfort

Advise Needed asap

Hello!

Hey everyone,
could really use some advise, my ex racehorse thoroughbred always bucks before going into canter, weather with or without a saddle or rider. Im unsure of the problem as he isnt wearing any tack!!!! Any advise would be great.

Hello!

Have you had him checked over by a vet and chiropracter to make sure you are not dealing with any pain issues in his back or somewhere else? A bucking horse is hard to keep bucking because they will lose interest and no longer want to do this. Usually they buck from high energy, a first rider, not knowing the tack, playing in the field, or pain. First, know that you are not dealing a pain issue in the back or even in the stifle area or legs. This can cause a horse to buck. Check his feet, is he balanced and not hurting on them. There is a lot of pressure on them at the canter. In the field at play, does he buck around when cantering. Does he gallop around? I would start with a chiropracter, a vet, and a farrier and rule out pain issues. If it is not a pain issue, write back and give more details.

Hello!

Thanks i have the farrier out tomorrow, he does gallop about and buck when in the field sometimes, so it could be excitement. Thanks for the response, will get back to you tomorrow!!!

Hello! 100 lessons completed

Should that be of any help to you, please be informed that your problem is thoroughly discussed in Monty’s book “From My hands To Yours”, from page 139 to page 147.

I hope this is not going to be considered “unauthorized advertising”!

Hello!

I would have to agree with the pain issue. Especially since he is and ex-racer. There could be some muscle or joint issues that are causing pain. I'd get an examination done by a vet and a chiro. Tell them that he is constantly bucking when going into the canter. Once you rule out pain, then I would consider treating it as a remedial horse.

Hello!

Thanks, i had his feet checked and he was perfect, but will get chiro in to look at his back, thanks for the book ref, will read it now as i already brought it :) It could be excitement as he seems sound in every other way. He wasnt ridden for a while due to snow/ice but now im riding everyday, he didnt buck yesterday but he did again today, VERY odd.
Thanks for all your comments though

Hello!

Please could someone help me out... I have to purchase a saddle ASAP.. (within a week) and I'm really interested in adverts I have seen for the 'Freemax' Acavallo Treeless Saddle. Could someone tell me of their experience/opinion of this saddle and it's choices? ASAP please... I'm desperate... Libby
