My Join-Up® Experience

How many times should you do join up with the same horse?

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed
I'm very green, so this question may seem silly to experienced horseman, however, I will ask it. How many times should I do join up with the same horse? I have one pony that I bought two months ago. He joined up easily even though I had to use an arena. He also did follow up. I have done join up four times because I thought I read somewhere that Monty says to do it 4-6 times, but I'm not certain about that. Thoughts?

Hi Kathy & welcome to the Uni. You are quite right - Monty says 4-6 times for Joinup but as you study Montys approach to horses you will find that horses 'read' us all the time & build their relationship with us based on that & not just our attitude in a training environment. Given that you got Join up in less than ideal circumstances speaks volumes for your pony & you. If a human had been a significant problem to him in the past or your anticipation of what could happen had got the better of you (bringing your adrenaline up) the outcome would have been less successful. There is a wealth of knowledge available here so enjoy your Monty journey. Your pony is lucky to have found a considerate owner. Keep in touch & remember the golden rules - it is vital that you have fun with your learning but even more important is that your pony has fun. Cheers, Jo.
